“You are what you believe yourself to be.” – Paulo Coelho
Jamie Tuckett is the winner of the title ‘Miss Top Model Nation Universe 2023’, is a vivid example of this saying. Aside from pageantry; the Canadian model of English origin is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Fashion Business from Humber College, Toronto. She’s also the Art director of Humber’s Fashion magazine called INFUSE Humber.
In a recent interview, when asked about how long she has been modeling, Jamie revealed that she hasn’t been modeling very long and wished that she had picked it up when she was younger. While expressing her reason for not pursuing a modeling career earlier, she opened up about her journey, the fears she overcame, and the struggles she had to go through during the early years.
Her reply was:
“I had always tried applying to modeling agencies when I was a bit younger, and everything was “must be over 5’7”. I just didn’t think it was an opportunity for me because I am 5’1, so I didn’t think I had a shot.”
Things took a bright turn for Jamie when she was noticed at the Super Chic Toronto Fashion Week show. Her first-ever Fashion Week event. She expressed how she found personal strength in the words of wisdom by Nora Marvilli; the producer of the Fashion Week event at the Miss Nation Universe Pageant.
“Nora was actually the one who made me think I had a chance. I was always extremely shy and anxious; I remember being so nervous backstage that I was shaking, and the team was so thoughtful of me and kept asking me if I was okay. I will always be so thankful to Nora, Rachel, and Mr. JP for inspiring me and telling me I could do it.”
It is through the power and lesson of her words that Jamie was able to overcome the shackles of stereotypes. She shined like a star among the other talented girls and became Miss Top Model Nation Universe 2023 at the international competition; which took place on November 20th, 2022 in Philadelphia, PA The talented young woman had the honor and privilege to represent her roots; as Miss England Nation Universe 2022 – which she was appointed earlier in the year after being noticed at Super Chic Toronto Fashion Week. Competing at the international competition and representing an international title is a dream come true for her.
To Jamie, the modeling industry holds so much power that it can reshape the standards of the world at any time. From being threatening and non-inclusive to initiating this enlightenment movement of body positivity, this industry is shifting young minds into a progressive outlook on their bodies and whole personalities.
“Growing up watching only stick thin, tall models walking the runways and in commercial shoots, takes a toll on a young person’s mental and physical health. This caused me eating disorders and body dysmorphia […] I think everyone should see someone that looks like themselves on a magazine or a runway. I know if I had seen a short, thicker model in my magazine growing up, it would have been easier on myself and my body”, says Jamie.
In a world where body positivity is still sprouting its buds, she stands as a strong bright example of it, paving ways for millions of beauties and hidden talent, beating on boat against the current while instilling confidence into millions of people.
With this title, as Miss Top Model Nation Universe 2023; Jamie aims to show the younger generation that they don’t have to look a certain way or fit into a stereotypical box to be beautiful. In addition, she looks forward to her own personal development and strives to improve her self-confidence.
Upon completion of her college she plans to work in the fashion industry. Besides modeling, she takes a great interest in the wedding planning industry and window display projects. As her background is English, she said that she would love to have the opportunity for any show in England, especially the upcoming Fashion Week showcase in London with Super Chic Fashion Week which is planned to take place in February of 2023.
