Partnership Lets Patients in Supportive Housing Access Comprehensive Virtual Primary Care and Mental Health Services, Powered by Device Kiosks and the Rocket Doctor Virtual Care Platform
Rocket Doctor and EngageWell IPA are excited to announce that they have won a New York Health Foundation grant to place virtual medical care and behavioral health services in supportive and emergency housing sites across New York City. This grant is part of New York Health Foundation’s newest priority area, which aims to expand primary care access and capacity, advance racial health equity, and strengthen the primary care workforce.
With this funding, Rocket Doctor and EngageWell IPA will kick off a set of comprehensive meetings with local stakeholders, housing residents, community members, and health centers to build a system of care that integrates historically siloed health and housing sectors. This partnership will provide virtual primary and urgent care services and mental health assessments supported by community healthcare workers on the ground.
“We are thrilled to have been included in the competitive funding process and ultimately selected by EngageWell as a clinical partner on this grant,” said Dr. William Cherniak, founder and CEO of Rocket Doctor. “After more than a decade in international public health, as well as practicing emergency medicine across North America, it’s fantastic to see Rocket Doctor able to engage technology to test innovative ideas to break barriers in access to care for patients domestically.”
Chris Joseph, Executive Director of EngageWell IPA, stated, “We are thrilled to see New York Health Foundation provide ongoing support for our ‘Care Your Way’ platform, which embraces technology as a means of empowering clients to be active participants in their care. Over the last year, EngageWell introduced to clients new smartphone interventions that address food insecurity and improve medication adherence. As we expand ‘Care Your Way,’ Rocket Doctor is the perfect partner to address racial health disparities in primary care access.”
Rocket Doctor, Engagewell, and New York Health Foundation share a commitment to improve the health and wellbeing of vulnerable New Yorkers through evidence-based, client-centered, and cost-saving interventions. The “Healthcare in Housing” pilot program will lay the groundwork for integrated care across New York State and support the movement toward value-based care.
